The Gymnasium lasts four years and provides a broad general education. The canton of Aargau has six Gymnasiums. The Gymnasium is completed with a Matura. This entitles you to study at Swiss universities. With the Matura, you are admitted to study at all Swiss universities and the two ETHs (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology), and you can also study at most universities abroad. Anyone who wants to study at a university of applied sciences with a Gymnasium Matura usually has to complete a one-year internship or gain a year of professional experience before studying. Thanks to the general educational nature of the Gymnasium education, you can also tackle a demanding non-academic education or go straight into working life with a Matura.
